The GATE 2027 registration opening date has been postponed again. IIT Madras had earlier rescheduled the GATE Online Application Processing System (GOAPS) opening to 27 August 2026, but the official GATE 2027 Important Dates page now shows the registration opening date as TBA.
This is a meaningful update for engineering, science, architecture, commerce, arts and humanities candidates preparing to register. Do not rely on older articles still saying that the application portal opened on 27 August. The official GATE website should be treated as the controlling source.

What Changed?
The official notification history records that registration had previously been rescheduled to 27 August 2026. However, the current Important Dates page now strikes out the earlier opening dates and displays TBA. Candidates should therefore wait for IIT Madras to announce the revised GOAPS opening date rather than trying unofficial registration links.
The closing dates currently remain visible as 27 September without a late fee and 5 October with a late fee, but all dates are subject to change. Recheck them once GOAPS actually opens.
Who Can Apply for GATE 2027?
GATE 2027 is open to candidates who meet the official academic eligibility rules. In general, students currently in the third year or higher of an eligible undergraduate degree, or candidates who have completed an eligible government-recognised degree, can apply. The exam covers 30 test papers and the GATE score remains valid for three years from the date of result.
Indian nationals are required to use a verified DigiLocker account for GATE 2027 registration according to the official GATE website. Candidates should prepare their DigiLocker account and required documents while waiting for the revised opening date.
